General Physical Description:
- Appearance: Large, pillow-shaped or cylindrical tablets. They should be uniform in size and shape.
- Colour: Brilliant snow-white. Any discolouration (grey or brown) suggests impurities that could foul a water softener’s resin bed.
- Texture: Very hard and smooth. High-quality tablets are compressed under extreme pressure to ensure they do not crumble or turn into “mush” at the bottom of a brine tank.
- Integrity: Should be free from “fines” (salt dust) and broken pieces. When submerged, they should maintain their shape while gradually dissolving.
- Odour: Odourless.
