General Physical Description:
- Appearance: Crystalline rock salt. Available in various forms: Extra Fine (powder), Fine (table salt consistency), Coarse (2–5 mm), or Large Chunks (lamps/blocks).
- Colour: Ranges from transparent/white to light pink, vibrant orange, and deep reddish-pink. The Colour is derived from iron oxide (rust) and other trace minerals.
- Texture: Hard, brittle crystals. Unlike refined salt, it is usually “unrefined,” meaning it maintains a slightly irregular, sharp crystalline structure.
- Flavour/Aroma: Saline but often described as “milder” or “earthier” than highly refined table salt. It is odourless.
- Solubility: Highly soluble in water, though it may leave a very small amount of insoluble mineral sediment (clay or grit) at the bottom.
