General Physical Description:
- Appearance: Small, oval/ovate-shaped seeds. Because the dark outer husk is removed, they appear creamy-white to off-white.
- Texture: Significantly softer and smoother than natural (unhulled) seeds, which have a grainy or “sandy” feel.
- Dimensions: Typically 3–4 mm long, 2 mm wide, and 1 mm thick.
- Weight: The average weight ranges from 0 to 4.0 mg per seed (or a seed count of approximately 360–390 seeds per gram).
- Flavour & Aroma: A delicate, buttery, and nutty Flavour. They lack the slight bitterness found in the hull of natural sesame seeds.
- Glossiness: Premium mechanically hulled seeds often have a slight glossy sheen resulting from the polishing action during the hulling process.
